Dutch govt. to sponsor vocational/technical centres in Ghana

The government of the Netherlands is to provide machinery and equipment to stock two vocational and technical training centres at Eremon and Wa in the Upper West Region of Ghana.

Mr Chikpah Demuyakor, Regional Director of Education, who announced this at Lawra during a familiarisation tour of the region said the equipment have arrived in the country and urged the district assemblies to expedite action on the buildings to house them before the deadline in December.

He said the Eremon centre would serve the Lawra, Sissala and Jirapa/Lambussie districts while the other centre at the Wa Technical Institute will serve the Wa and Nadowli districts.

Mr Demuyakor said any delay in the execution of the project could cost the region a great deal as the donors might divert their attention to other areas.

He warned teachers to refrain from using school children as farm hands, saying any teacher caught would be severely dealt with.

Mr Demuyakor advised them against drunkenness, lateness and absenteeism, which retard the progress of education.
