Dunkwa Small Scale miners hold get-to-gether

Ghana National Association of Small Scale Gold Miners, Dunkwa – on – Offin Area, organized an annual get-together last Sunday 18th December 2005 at the Dunkwa COCOBOD canteen.

The chairmen of the Association, Mr. A. Nyameboame Aikins, welcomed everyone to the party and gave a brief outline of the rationale for getting together at the end of the year to wine and dine. ?All work and no play make Jack a dull boy? he added.

He pleaded with the members to unite to confront the challenges associated with the nature of their occupation.

Mr. Appiah Arthur, the present mineral commission officer in charge of Dunkwa area, gave a lecture on the ?Overview of Small Scale Mining, Present and Future?. He noted that the Government was committed to promoting the small scale mining activities by providing technical aid, safety and health gear as well as mining equipment through the mining sector support programme.

Mr Arthur said that the Government had given two billion cedis loan each to two Miners Associations in Konongo and Boigatanga.

He advised the Association to sharpen her managerial skills and practices to attract such benefits in the near future.

The Association used the occasion to present awards to some deserving members and some distinguished personalities including Mr. Ellis Paul Atiglah, a transferred Mineral Commission officer of Dunkwa to Accra office.

The Chairman for the function was Dabehene, the regent of Denkyera Stool, Nana Ottaa Opanin II.

Among the very important personalities invited were Dr. E. Y. Klutse ,the District Director of health, DSP Nana Kumi – the Police Commander, his lordship Eric Baah -the Circuit Court Judge, his lordship H. K. Kpogo – the Magistrate Court Judge and the Very Rev. Joshuah K. A. Orgen, the Supt. Minister of the Methodist church who prayed for the commencement and the closure of the function.

Mr. Matthew Asante Antwi, the Association’s organizer was the MC for the get-together.
