Dumsor: 845MW coming on-grid

The Government will add 845MW to the national grid by the end of 2015, to supplant power supply, Finance Minister Seth Terkper has said.

Presenting the 2016 Budget to Parliament on Friday, November 13, 2015, Mr Terkper said the 845MW expected is a realisation of President John Mahama efforts towards ending the erratic power situation in the country.

The country has been under a power rationing regime for the past three years, a situation that has led to the collapse of several businesses, as well as triggered layoffs.

Currently, Ghana is expecting a power barge from Karpower in Turkey to supplant production by 225MW.

The plant will eventually produce a total of 450 MW. Other plants including Kpone will contribute an initial 110MW but eventually give off 220MW. Another plant from AMERI in Dubai is also expected to produce 250MW while the Asogli Power Plant supplies 300MW.

Power Minister Dr Kwabena Donkor has promised to end the erratic power situation by December 31.
