Accra, March 7, GNA – The Duke of Kent, Prince Edward George Nicholas Patrick, on Wednesday unveiled a commemorative plaque for the construction of a lecture and administrative block complex for the Junior Division of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) at Teshie, near Accra.
The project, which also includes the construction of a 40-room living accommodation, is being funded with a UK grant of 10.8 billion cedis and a Ghana government component of about six billion cedis. The Duke of Kent, who represented the Queen of England at Ghana’s Golden Jubilee celebrations on Tuesday, commended the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) for their high level of professionalism and discipline. He said the project signified the fruitful cooperation between both countries and pledged his country’s continued commitment to support the GAF in its quest to enhance its capacity.
Defence Minister Kwame Addo-Kufuor recounted the long history of bilateral cooperation between Ghana and the UK that had aided the development of many sectors of the economy.
He said the consistent support by the British government had helped to enhance the human resource capacity of the GAF an expressed the hope that the friendship and cooperation between both countries would continue to grow.
The Duke of Kent also toured the Kofi Annan International Conference Centre (KAIPTC) and planted a commemorative tree.
