Duffuor seizes NDC car; reclaims party office

A Mazda Pick-Up, with registration number GE 6466-11, donated by the former Finance Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffour, is now the bone of contention between old and new Executives of the Kumawu constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The vehicle was excluded in the list of items the outgoing executives handed over to the new executives, headed by constituency chairman, Hamidu Issaka, at a handing over ceremony last Friday.

The new executives have also been compelled to move into an old office at Kumawu Zongo because an office accommodation rented for the party in the town has also been taken over by the benefactor, Dr. Duffour.

Former constituency chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim, explained to The Chronicle that the exclusion of the Mazda vehicle was at the directive of the ex-Finance Minister, who is demanding the return of the car.

Alhaji Ibrahim told The Chronicle newspaper that there was nothing wrong with their returning the vehicle to the owner, who had volunteered to help the party in the last electioneering campaign, by providing the car at a time the party’s own vehicle allocated to the constituency had been “hijacked” by the DCE.

Dr. Duffuor confirmed to The Chronicle enquiries on phone that he had donated the vehicle to the constituency and hired an office for the party, when it needed to campaign in the district, which covers a vast area.

According to him, he had donated the vehicle to the constituency through the Regional NDC chairman and that since the old executives were no more in office they deemed it right to return it to him, to decide on the next line of action.

He said now that there were two districts in the area, he was yet to consider which of the constituencies would need the services of the vehicle.

Dr. Duffuor indicated that he was yet to talk it over with the regional party chairman, regarding the continued use of the vehicle by the party.
