Dubai Consulate hosts Ghanaians on 57th Independence Day

Friday 7th March 2014 was yet another glorious day of coming-together by Ghanaians resident in the United Arab Emirates and around. The vibrant Ghana Social Club in Abu Dhabi – GHASCAD – bused their entire members to Dubai, joining the Ghana Community-Dubai (GHACOM) to celebrate the 57th Independence Anniversary of Ghana, starting from 3pm till 10pm.

The large gathering numbering 315 Ghanaians plus their friends from other countries were hosted by the Ghana Consul-General to Dubai Alhaji Abdulai Yakubu at his new Umm Suquiem Residence and was attended by the Staff of the Consulate which included Mr Hussein Amandi, Becky Anti and Theresa Quartey.

The fact the the GHASCAD had outgrown Dubai-based GHACOM in numbers, the competitive spirit was on sheer display with their Tee-Shirt designs.

Speaking on this year’s theme “Building a Better and Prosperous Ghana through Patriotism and National Unity” the Consul-General, Alhaji Yakubu seized the opportunity to praise Ghanaians for their patriotism and unity towards national issues while in the UAE. He urged all to continue to be good Ambassadors of Ghana to the Gulf countries to further enhance the image of the country in the Gulf Region and beyond. Alhaji Abudulai in his speech also encouraged Ghanaians to seize the emerging economic opportunities back home and with the expertise they have acquired abroad, help build a better and prosperous Ghana.

The Consul-General and his staff made time for an interactive session with Ghanaians where various issues of national interest including consular services were discussed and addressed.

Sumptuous Ghanaian dishes were on display, coming from Zainab Transworld Hotel African Restaurant and Esenam’s Gateway to Africa Trading. Franco Kankam was the music Director.
