DSP cautions the public against fake dollars.

Tema, June 01, GNA – The public has been cautioned against the use of fake dollars in the payment of goods and services by a group who go round in cars.

DSP John Asare Naami, District Commander of Community Two police who was addressing the Tema Municipal Assembly (TMA) about the security situation in the municipality during the general assembly session said the syndicate group use Nissan saloon cars, but they keep on changing the registration number.

He explained their modus operation and said they go to shops collect many goods, which they pay in dollars, because they have just returned and have not changed their foreign money into cedis yet. They collect their change in cedis and when the storekeepers later want to change the dollars, they are told that the dollars are fake.

DSP Naami said in many cases, other victims of this fraud are those who sell telephone units and advised them to be on the look out for such fraudsters, so they can report them to police.

He called for cooperation between the public and the police so that criminals could easily be trapped, adding, “Be acquainted with the police telephone numbers, so that you can quickly call for assistance”.
