Drunken Latvian engineer slaps high ranking Airforce officer

The presiding judge of Takoradi Circuit court “B”, Mr. Charles Bamford Nimako, on Friday, remanded a Latvian national, Mihails Laricevs, an engineer, into custody for allegedly slapping the Second-in-Command of the Takoradi Air-force Base Station.

Chief Inspector Alice Parker-Wilson said Laricevs was drunk when he was about to board an Air-force plane at the Takoradi Airport to Accra on Wednesday August 22.

She said the accused was holding a cigarette and lighter in his hands and therefore the Airforce Station Second-in-Command (name withheld) asked him to put the items into his luggage but the accused took offence and slapped him.

The military personnel at the scene arrested him and handed him over to the police.

His plea was not taken and the court adjourned to August 28. Some military personnel were at the court premises on Friday to show their solidarity with their officer.
