Drunkards would be dismissed from GES – Assistant Director

Agona Swedru, Aug 6, GNA – Mrs. Agnes Koomson, Assistant Director of Education in charge of Human Resource and Development, has said teachers who are always drunk and those who rape their pupils would be dismissed from the Ghana Education Service.

She said the service would not countenance habits, which had negative influence on pupils and students.

Mrs. Koomson was addressing the open-day ceremony of the Agona Swedru AM E Zion Junior Secondary School, at Swedru.

She cautioned teachers against absenteeism, lateness and other activities, which did not promote teaching and learning and to serve as role model for their students to enable them to grow into responsible future leaders.

Parents should provide their basic school needs and desist from wasting their resources on social functions such as expensive funerals and clothes.

Mrs. Koomson called on students to take their studies seriously to attain higher levels and assured the headmaster, staff, Parent Teacher Association and School Management Committee of the directorate’s assistance since the school was one of the oldest in the district. Nana Barima Oduro, National President West Ghana Conference of AME Zion Church, called on old boys and girls of the school to assist their Alma Mata to achieve higher laurels.

He appealed to the District Assembly to construct a block for the lower primary to save the children the trouble of walking a long distance to Dwenho, a suburb of Swedru.

Mr. Enchill Dickson, head teacher said the school, which was established in 1950 had not been renovated.

He complained about the stealing of books and other assets, adding that, the school had not got the resources to engage a watchman. Mr. Dickson appealed for assistance to help extend electricity to the school to enable the students to study during the night. 06 Aug 03
