Drunk Teachers to Be Monitored

Teachers in Mfantseman District, who are habitual drunkards are to be transferred to the district education office at Saltpond for the director to keep an eye on them and if they are unable to reform, they will be released from the district.

Mr Isaac Bart-Addison, the district director hinted at this at a meeting with teachers from Abeadze Dominase Circuit at Dominase.

He deplored the attitude of people, who condone and connive with teachers to indulge in acts that are incompatible with the ethics of the profession.

He bemoaned the poor performance of public schools in the district in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), adding that they could not match up to private schools, which are staffed mostly with untrained teachers.

Mr Bart-Addison urged teachers to work hard to make the heavy investments being made in education yield a good dividend.

Miss Vivian Etroo, the District Girl Education Officer said the emphasis being placed on the education of the girl-child should not be misconstrued as discrimination against boys’ education.

She said it is believed that education of the girl-child would have an impact on the upbringing of their children and thereby, reduce the prevalence of crimes and social vices in the country.

She urged female teachers to lead lives worth of emulation by girls in their communities.

Colonel Ato Enninful (rtd), chairman of the District Education Planning Team (DEPT) urged the rural communities to establish community farms to generate funds to support improvement of conditions in their schools.
