‘Drug Lords’ in bed with senior security capos – Former NACOB Boss

A former Executive Secretary of the Narcotics Control Board [NACOB] Akrasi Sarpong, has revealed that ‘Drug Lords’ are still actively engaged in the trade in Ghana despite measures put in place by the security agencies to curb the menace.

He observed that these individuals have succeeded in corrupting and co-opting people in authority including senior security officials by buying them luxurious cars and mansions to turn a blind eye on their activities.

‘The drug barons in Ghana buy cars and houses for the NACOB officials. So how can they arrest them’ he asked,

‘This he noted, has made the fight against narcotic trade in Ghana a herculean task indicating that the only way there will be success is for those in authority benefiting from the goodies to exhibit patriotism by choosing the nation over the drug peddlers.

On UTV’s Adekye Nsroma last Friday, Mr Akrasi Sarpong described drug barons in the country as ‘powerful’ because they have the backing of those who have been entrusted with the authority to lead the fight against their activities.

On Ghanaian/Austrian Citizen Nayele Ametefe busted somewhere in November 2014 and currently serving a jail term of 8 years 8 months’ imprisonment for carrying 12 kilos of cocaine in the UK, he said she was a smart girl.

“We were man hunting her and she was very very smart. She was not alone in the business. It is a network that sponsors her” he stated.

“This network is still in the country and my prayer is that my successor will do better than me. I pray that he will also succeed in tracking down their activities as I give my support to him” Mr. Akrasi Sarpong disclosed

“I was in France for another official assignment and I could have arrested her here before she got to UK” he stated.
