Drobo (B/A) Dec. 4, GNA – The chiefs and people of Drobo Traditional Area in Brong Ahafo at the weekend as part of the celebration of the annual Munufie Kese festival realized 130 million cedis at a grand durbar towards the promotion of education in the area. Speaking at the durbar, Beyeeman Bosea Gyinantwi 1V, Omanhene of the traditional area urged the people to recognise education as a pre-requisite for progress and development and contribute to its promotion.
He acknowledged the untiring efforts of the government in providing school blocks and other educational facilities in the area and exhorted the people to supplement such efforts by enrolling their children, especially the girls, in schools for accelerated development.
“Knowledge is power and I urge you not to concentrate your resources and energies on merely acquiring material wealth. The promotion of education must be the concern of all”, he said, adding the traditional council would not “leave any stone unturned to ensure that education was given its due recognition and promoted”. Beyeeman Bosea called on both resident and non-resident citizens of the area to contribute to the educational endowment fund launched in the area last year “to support brilliant children from poor homes to also realize their dreams for the benefit of themselves, their parents, the traditional area and the country as a whole”. The Omanhene appealed to the government to consider and rehabilitate the Drobo-Sampa road, which he said was in a deplorable state.
Mr. Ignatius Baffour Awuah, Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Minister lauded the efforts of the chiefs and people for launching the educational endowment fund and urged them to work harder towards the realization of its goals.
“Education is the panacea for progress and steady development and all must support the fund either in cash or in kind for the benefit of the children, our future leaders”, he stated.
