Drobo gets library complex

Drobo (B/A) May 03 GNA – An American couple, Mr. Kirt and Hilda Bromley, Chief Executive Officers of ‘Books for Africa’, an NGO, has presented 15,000 assorted books to a new library complex at Drobo in Jaman South district of Brong Ahafo.

The library complex was initiated by the Drobo Traditional Council with support from the European Union, the government and Jaman South District Assembly.

The people provided communal labour. Speaking at the commissioning of the complex, the Bromley couple stated that their gesture was part of the Christian and social responsibilities to assist learners sharpen their intellectual potentials.

He said the NGO had assisted in the establishment of 38 libraries in various communities in the country since 1997 and provided a total number of 30,000 books every year.

Mr. Apraku Tanor, District Chief Executive, said interventions like the capitation grant and the school feeding programme were indicative of the government’s determination to harness the country’s human resource base.

He urged teachers, students and other stakeholders to make good use of the library to enhance their capacities.

Mrs. Lilian Azuba Ayuko, district education director, asked teachers to encourage school children to avail themselves of the opportunity presented by the library to read and conduct research to gain more knowledge.

Mr. Frederick Noble Adda, regional Librarian, urged philanthropists, individuals and institutions to collaborate with district Assemblies to provide libraries in all communities throughout the country.

Nana Appiah-Kubi, Aduanahene, who presided, commended the efforts of all stakeholders, especially the EU, the American NGO, the government and the community for the establishment of the library and urged all to read wider.
