Drivers’ Union Sets Up Insurance Policy

The Western Region Branch of the GPRTU has instituted a personal accident insurance policy scheme for elected executives of the union. It will cover all accident expenses they would incur during the discharge of their duties. This was made known by the chairman of the Interim Management Committee, Mr.. George Senchery, at a regional executive meeting in Takoradi. He said the scheme would soon be extended to cover all members of the unions. He appealed to the branch executives to organise road safety campaigns for their members to make the forth-coming christmas accident-free. Members expressed concern about the deplorable conditions of roads in the region and appealed to government to ensure that they are rehabilitated before the next rainy season. He also appealed to government to remove some of the numerous road blocks mounted by police in the region which are hindering their work.
