Drivers on Tema motorway cautioned

A police officer has appealed to drivers as well as other users of the Tema Motorway to be extra careful with the on-set of the rains and the rains could make the road slippery and cause accidents.

Superintendent of Police Oduro Amaning, the Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit of the Tema District, told the GNA in an interview that apart from slippery roads, visibility during rainfall was also very poor, which made it important for drivers to slow down.

“Reduce your speed, make sure your wipers are working, as well as your head lights,” he said.

Touching on safety on the Tema Motorway in general, he said though designed for speeds of up to 100 kilometers per hour and over it had seen a few changes over the years.

“You would typically see people crossing the road, whilst animals such as cattle also move alongside the road,” Mr Amaning said adding that houses and other forms of settlements had also evolved not too far from the motor way.

“This means although the motor way has been designed for high speed, drivers should be very cautious because one could easily encounter any form of obstruction whilst driving on the motor way.”

He said no accidents had been recorded from the time the rains started, adding that the police were educating drivers as part of measures to ensure safety on the Motorway
