Driver’s mate remanded in prison custody for stealing

Tema, Feb. 4, GNA — Tema Circuit court “B” on Wednesday remanded Issahatu Bawa also known as Osama, a driver’s mate into prison custody for allegedly stealing 450 bags of rice valued at GH¢16,660 belonging to a transport owner at Tema. He pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to steal and stealing and would re-appear on February 10.

His accomplice, Seidu Moro Amidu, driver of a DAF cargo truck with registration number AS 1536 F, used in carting the rice is on the run. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Adolphine Dzamsi, prosecuting told the court that Mr Ernest Morgan, a transport owner with Delema Enterprise Company in Tema contracted Amidu and the accused on January 27 this year, to cart the rice from Tema port to a warehouse at Tema industrial area. He said after loading the goods they conspired and diverted them to an unknown destination and during investigations, the accused was arrested from his hide out.
