Driver’s mate jailed for defilement

Kumasi, June 11, GNA – An 18 year-old driver’s mate at Onwi in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District, Akwasi Ampofo, was on Friday sentenced to a seven-year jail term by a Kumasi Circuit Court for defilement.

He pleaded guilty to defiling a junior secondary school pupil. Police Chief Inspector Dinkyini told the Court that in the evening of May 15 the mother of the victim detected that her daughter was not in the house.

The mother, who for three days could not locate her daughter, lodged a complaint with the Ejisu police.

She later had a tip off that Ampofo was sexually abusing the victim in his room and passed on the information to the police who rescued her and arrested the accused.
