Driver’s mate arrested over 2.8 million cedis theft

Suhum (E/R), April 21, GNA – A 30-year-old driver’s mate, James Tei Tetteh, who bolted with an amount of 2.8 million cedis belonging to his friend, has been charged before the Suhum Magistrate Court with stealing.

He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in police custody April 28, this year.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector I.A Gruah, told the court presided over by Mr M. E Assandoh, that the accused and the complainant, identified only as Mr Donkor, were friends and lived at Suhum. He said on April 4, this year, the accused and Mr Donkor decided to visit a friend and on their way Donkor decided to attend to nature’s call and therefore gave the money to the accused for safe keeping. Prosecutor Gruah said after the nature’s call Mr Donkor came out but the accused was no where to be found and so, a report was made to the police.

He said on April 7, this year, the accused was sported at a funeral and with the assistance of some members of the Unit Committee of the area; he was arrested and charged with the offence.
