Driver’s mate arrested for stealing his master’s vehicle

Winneba, June 10, GNA – Agabus Kwasi Quainoo, a 28-year-old drivers’ mate from Agona Nkwanta in the Ahanta District of the Western Region has been arrested and handed over to the police at Winneba for stealing his master’s Toyota commuter mini-bus with registration number GT 2929 G.

About three months ago, Mr Atsu Musah, 35, the driver of the vehicle could not trace his ignition key and reported the loss to the owners – the Winneba branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and was given a duplicate key. After close of work on May 31, 2005, Musah parked the vehicle at the usual parking place and left.

On June 1, at about 4.00 am, Musah came back and realized that the vehicle was not there. He reported to the Winneba police who sent out messages that led to the arrest of the accused, Quainoo and the car at Assin Foso. When GNA contacted Winneba police, Chief Inspector William Kwame Akannah confirmed the story, adding that Quainoo had been remanded until June 21.
