Drivers in Ayensuano strike over deplorable roads

Drivers in Ayensuano District of the Eastern region are on strike over worsening poor road networks in the area.

The drivers say the deplorable nature of the roads is damaging their vehicles, adding it is having a major toll on their pockets.

According to the drivers, several appeals and complaints to the government and the Member of Parliament for the area have not yielded any results hence the strike. Drivers who flout the strike directive will be fined at least GHC 400.

The Ayensuano District is one of the new districts created during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration. Farming is the major economic activity in the deprived district. As a result of the bumpy roads, farm produce are getting stale while drivers who agree to ply the road charge exorbitant fares.

Commuters, especially farmers and chiefs have appealed to the government to come to their aid since their produce such as cassava, pawpaw and vegetables are going waste.
