Drivers fined for driving rickety vehicles

Eight trotro drivers have been fined a total ¢2,400.00 at the La Motor Traffic Court for driving rickety vehicles on the road.

The Court, presided over Mrs Emelia Abrokwah., fined each of the drivers ¢300.

According to the Madina Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD)’s Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Michael Asiedu, the vehicles were rounded up by a special MTTD Task Force mounted at vantage points.

The Commander said some of the vehicles had their vehicles’ side mirrors, taillights and windshields broken.

Others had perforated vehicle floors with the seats in the bus shaking vigorously when the vehicles when in motion.

Madam Abrokwah ordered that the vehicle be repaired and returned to the Police for inspection before putting them back on the roads.

Commander Asiedu said he would make sure that all rickety vehicles were pulled off the road to allow only roadworthy vehicles to ply the roads.

He said offending drivers who dodged the recent exercise must note that the MTTD would continue with the exercise to get rid of their rickety vehicles.
