Kumasi, Dec 24, GNA- Drivers have been advised to be concerned more of sending passengers safely to their destinations than over-speeding and over-loading in order to make unreasonable profits during the Yuletide.
Chief Superintendent Augustine Gyening, the Ashanti Regional Motor Traffic and Transport (MTTU) Commander, who gave the advice, said such profit motives, should be resisted at all cost since it resulted in fatal accidents and loss of lives.
Chief Supt Gyening was addressing the annual general meeting of the Kumasi-Takoradi-Elubo local union of the Asafo Market branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) in Kumasi on Tuesday.
“Profits could be made through cautious planning and prudent management of vehicles and not through over-speeding”, he stated. Alhaji Sumaila Boakye, the branch chairman, stressed the need for drivers and their mates to always be tolerant and polite to passengers even in the face of provocation.
He said this was crucial since being discourteous and rude to passengers could discourage them from patronising their services. Mr Kwaku Adusei, the branch secretary, was happy that they never recorded any fatal accidents this year and was optimistic that the drivers would be more careful next year.
