Driver Shot Dead on Ntotroso-Sunyani Highway Amidst Rising Robberies

A yet-to-be-identified driver has been shot and killed on the Ntotroso-Sunyani Highway in the Bono Region.

The incident occurred last Friday while the driver was transporting passengers from Sunyani to Bibiani in a Ford vehicle.

Assemblyman for the Atronie Electoral Area, Richard Adu, revealed that the driver was shot in the head.

The driver’s body has been deposited at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital morgue, while two passengers who sustained gunshot wounds are receiving treatment at the same facility.

Residents have expressed fear, stating that the Ntotroso-Sunyani road, which links the Ahafo and Bono Regions, has become a haven for highway robbers due to its deplorable condition.

They believe the poor state of the road has contributed to the high incidence of armed robberies, and security agencies are aware of the recurring issue.

A female farmer from the Atronie farming community expressed deep concern, stating that she and her colleagues can no longer access their farms due to rampant robberies and sporadic gunfire.

Residents are calling for government intervention to rehabilitate the deteriorated road, originally constructed under former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
