Driver sentenced three months for assault

A 37-year- old driver, George Ayensu from Fomena near Anomabo was on Thursday sentenced to a fine of GH¢180.00 or in default three months imprisonment by the Cape Coast Magistrate’s Court in Cape Coast for assault.

Ayensu, who pleaded guilty, was bonded to be of good behavior for 24 months or serve another six months in jail.

He was also ordered to compensate the complainant with GH¢100.00.

Inspector Daniel Nana Baidoo, told the court presided over by Mr Ohemeng Mensah that on February 12 , Ayensu gave the complainant, Mr Yaw Krah a damaged bucket to mend for him of which he (Mr Krah) charged GH¢2.00 as his workmanship.

He said Ayensu made part payment of GH¢1.00 and promised to pay the remaining amount later but after collecting the bucket he brought it back with the reason that it was still leaking .

Inspector Baidoo said last week Thursday at about 22.00hrs, Mr Krah met Ayensu at a village near Fomena and demanded his balance of GH¢1.00 and this infuriated Ayensu who slapped Mr Krah and later beat him up.

Inspector Baidoo said a witness in the case went to Mr Krah’s rescue and rushed him to the hospital after which he (Mr Krah) lodged a complaint at the Anomabo Police Station where he was issued a Police Medical form to attend hospital.**
