Driver remanded for raping imbecile

Kumasi, April 5, GNA- A 50-year-old driver and a father of three, Kwadwo Appiah, who is standing trial for raping a 17-year-old imbecile, has been remanded in prison custody by a Kumasi circuit court.

He pleaded guilty and would re-appear on Thursday, April 14.

Police Chief Inspector Regina Kesewah told the court presided over by Mr Ernest Yao Obimpeh that at about 1900 hours on March 9, this year, the victim requested the accused to buy her a pair of slippers. Appiah who agreed to the request asked the girl to accompany him to his house where he kept her overnight and sexually abused her. Chief Inspector Kesewah said Appiah released the girl the ext morning at about 0600 hours and gave her 20,000 cedis to buy the slippers.

The accused confessed spending the night with the girl but denied having sexual intercourse with her.
