Driver knocks down a pedestrian.

Tema, March 15, GNA- A driver who knocked down a 72-year-old man who was standing by a road side road has been granted 50 million cedis bail by the Tema Circuit Court “A”.

Otumfo Tetteh pleaded not guilty to driving without due care and attention, negligently and unlawfully causing harm and failing to renew his driving licence. He will reappear on April 30.

Police Inspector Adolphus Otchere, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu that on May 31, 2003, at about 0900 hours, Otumfo who was in-charge of Hyundai Excel taxi cab was driving from Tema Newtown towards Community One.

He said on reaching a spot opposite the Newtown police station accused, who had stopped on the near side for passengers to alight, suddenly reversed and without care and attention and knocked down Mr George Tetteh, 72, who was walking along the edge of the road. Inspector Otchere said Mr Tetteh was rushed to the Tema Port Clinic where he was admitted for treatment, but died some months later.
