Driver jailed for threatening to kill grandmother

A 32-year-old driver who threatened to kill his grandmother at Akenkensu, has been handed a 36-month jail term in hard labour, by the Akim Swedru Circuit Court.

Kwabena Oppong pleaded guilty to “threat of death” when he appeared before the court, presided over by Mr. Emmanuel Brew.

Police Inspector Richard K. Sabbah told the court that Madam Adwoa Nyarko Oye, the complainant, lives with her grandson, Oppong, at a village near Akenkensu in the Birim South District.

Inspector Sabbah said on January 27, this year, at about 1930 hours, Oppong returned from farm and requested a key from his 73-year-old grandmother, but she refused to give it out.

He said Oppong became offended and attacked Madam Oye, before “putting the fear of death in her”.

Inspector Sallah said when the old lady could no longer bear the situation she lodged a complaint at the Akenkensu police station.
