Juaso (Ash), Aug 13, GNA- A circuit court at Juaso on Wednesday sentenced a 36-year-old driver-mechanic to five years imprisonment for stealing a taxi and offering it for sale. Kofi Boahen who pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing, went on his knees and pleaded for leniency before the judge passed sentence. Chief Inspector Stephen Opare told the court presided over by Mr Jacob B. Boon that one Inusah Abdulai, the complainant, owned a taxi, which he gave to one Douglas Appiah to drive. He said after each day’s work, Appiah parked the car in front of the Kesse Trading Enterprise at Konongo in the care of a watchman. Chief Insp. Opare said at about 2300 hours on July 20, this year, after Appiah had parked the car, Boahen stealthily moved the vehicle and drove it to Agona in the Afigya-Sekyere district where he offered it for sale at eight million cedis after erasing the owner’s name and address and all the documents affixed on the windscreen. He said the police at Konongo informed some police stations about the missing car and the police at Agona feigned interest in buying the taxi after they were alerted that suspect was offering it for sale. Chief Insp. Opare said in the course of bargaining, the police arrested the accused and handed him over to the police at Konongo. The accused admitted that he stole the vehicle when the police interrogated him. 13 Aug. 05
