Driver jailed 60 months for stealing baby diapers

Kumasi, March 2, GNA – A 28-year old driver was on Tuesday sentenced to 60 months imprisonment by a Kumasi Circuit Court for stealing baby diapers, sanitary pads and fruit juice worth GH¢986.00. Adu Antwi pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Police Chief Inspector Collins Kwesi Fosu told the court presided over by Mr Justice Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey that the complainant, Felix Boateng, is the Sales Supervisor of A.C. Consult Limited, dealers in general goods, and resides at Patasi Estate in Kumasi. The convict lives in the same area.

On February 21, Boateng after the close of work parked his Hyundai mini-cargo bus full of assorted goods in front of his house and went to bed.

The next morning he detected that one of the doors to the bus had been forced open and some of the items stolen. The prosecution said a formal report was made to the police and investigations led to the arrest of Antwi. A search of his room uncovered two cartons of the stolen baby diapers, four boxes of sanitary pads and a quantity of the fruit juice. The convict admitted the offence in his caution statement.
