Driver jailed 10 years for stealing vehicle

Tema, May 4 GNA– Haruna Shaibu, a 32 year old driver was on Thursday sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for stealing a Leyland flat body truck valued at 30 million cedis belonging to Mr David Korley, a transport operator.

He pleaded guilty to stealing truck from the Tema harbour where it was parked. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr Michael Yirenkyi told the tribunal chaired by Mr Ringo Cass Azumah, that on April 17, Mr Korley parked his vehicle near the GPRTU offices at the Tema main harbour.

The following day the vehicle was nowhere to be found and he therefore lodged a complaint with the police whose investigation led to the arrest of Shaibu. ASP Yirenkyi said Shaibu led the police to a bush at Juapong in the Volta Region where he had concealed the vehicle. It was detected that Shaibu has started selling parts of the truck.
