Driver in critical condition after car runs into stationary vehicle at Asempa

A driver of a Ford Focus is battling for his life after ramming into a disabled stationary truck abandoned at Asempa on the Beposo road in the Western Region in the early hours of Saturday.

The driver identified as Ano Simon, a Togolese national, according to the Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service was driving from Lome to Abidjan when the ghastly incident occurred.

On reaching Asempa near Beposo, the MTTU report indicated he bumped into the broken Scania Articulator truck, WR4195-12 which had been abandoned in the middle of the road.

He has since been rushed to the Benedict hospital at Inchaban receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, the truck driver, one Appah Reynolds is in police custody according to Supt. Richard Appiah of the Sekondi MTTU.

It will be recalled, government proposed the introduction of a national towing service aimed at towing broken and neglected vehicles on roads across the country to curb such crashes of which 21-25 percent result in fatalities per statistics from the National Road Safety Commission

But the initiative hit a snag due to incessant opposition.
