Ibrahim Nuhu, a driver was on Thursday arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court for possessing narcotic drugs.

Ibrahim was said to have in his possession 13 wrappers of dried leaves, some quantities of dried leaves and a parcel of dried leaves all suspected to be narcotic drugs without lawful authority.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded by the court.

Prosecuting Police Chief Superintendent, Duuti Tuaruka told the court that the complainants are police officers stationed at Gbawe, while the accused person lives at Malam in Accra.

He said on August 5, at about 0800 hours, the station officer of Gbawe and his men had information that some people were selling and smoking Indian hemp around the vicinity.

He said the complainants proceeded with the Police to the spot at the Mallam main lorry park and met the accused person cutting some of the leaves he had displayed in a tray.

The prosecution said on seeing the police team, he attempted to flee but was arrested.

Chief Superintendent Tuaruka said upon a search at the spot they found 13 wraps of dried leaves, quantities of dried leaves and a parcel of dried leaves all suspected to be indian hemp.

He said Ibrahim was escorted to the police station with the exhibits where he admitted ownership of the leaves in his cautioned statement.

The prosecution said the accused person further stated that he bought the drug from a certain man he could not identify at the cargo station at Achimota.
