Driver in court for careless driving

Asamankese, Sept. 30, GNA – The Asamankese Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Kofi Akrowiah has remanded in prison custody, Eric Donkor, a driver who drove carelessly resulting in the death of one person and injury of six others.

Donkor, who pleaded guilty to careless driving and negligently causing harm, will re-appear on October 16 for his sentence. Police Chief Inspector Osei Owusu, prosecuting, said on October 16, 2004, Donkor was driving a taxicab Number GT 9452 U with two others on board travelling from Accra to Kumasi.

On reaching Amanfrom, on the Accra – Kumasi trunk road at about 1900 hours the driver attempted to over-take a stationary truck by the roadside but in the process, his vehicle collided with a bus number GT 9961 Q, being driven by Kwaku Klu with 10 others on board. He said the impact forced the bus to summersault several times and finally landed at the near-side edge of the road with both vehicles seriously damaged.

The prosecution said all the occupants on board the bus sustained injuries and were rushed to the Suhum Government Hospital where one ex-Army Sergeant, George Attivor, died shortly on admission.
