Driver granted 30 million-cedi bail for fraud

Kumasi, April 2, GNA-A 52-year-old driver has been granted a 20 million-cedi bail by a Kumasi circuit court for defrauding three persons.

Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed, who pleaded not guilty, was granted the bail to enable him pay back monies to the people he defrauded and will re-appear on April 21.

Police Chief Inspectors Hajia Victoria Baduanah and W.K. Salia, who jointly prosecuted, told the court, presided over by Mr Bright Mensah that in March and June last year, Mohammed succeeded in swindling Hamsah Mumuni, Abudu Omar, both mechanics and Sharibu Mohammed, a driver, all complainants in the case.

Prosecution said the accused cleverly convinced them that he could assist to get them visas for Saudi Arabia where the services of drivers and mechanics were badly needed.

The complainants then gave Alhaji Mohammed their passports and five million cedis each to be used to process other documents. Prosecution said the accused could not fulfil his promise after a very long time and was reported to the police.
