Driver fines for failing to appear in court

Apam (C/R), Dec. 23, GNA – The Apam district magistrate’s court has fined a driver, Kwaku Boakye GHC 180 Ghana Cedis for a traffic offence and failing to appear in court. Kwaku Boakye pleaded guilty and in default will to go prison for two months.

Prosecuting Police Chief Inspector William Adusei told the court presided over by Mr Charles Wiafie that, at about 1515 hours on December 6, a team of police personnel from the Apam District led by the District Commander, Superintendent of Police Oduro Amaning, arrested Boakye for overloading his vehicle. He was given a date to appear before the court but failed to do so until a bench warrant was issued for his arrest. Boakye told the court that he was attacked by malaria hence his inability to attend to court.
