Driver fined six million for entering convoy.

Sekondi, June 30, -GNA-A Takoradi Circuit court on Friday fined, Ali Illiyasu, a 42-year-old driver six million cedis or in default three months imprisonment in hard labour, for dangerous driving and failing to give way for a police escorted convoy. He pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting Police Chief Inspector Joseph Hedidor told the court, presided over by Mr. Kwasi Boakye, that on June 26 at about 1030 hours, the accused was driving an articulated truck with registration number GR 2318Q loaded with fertilizer and was about to join the main road from the Takoradi Goil Installation.

He said a Police convoy which was leading Mr. Anthony E. Amoah, Western Regional Minister and Mr. Kofi Duku Arthur, Regional Police Commander through the same route, failed to stop for the convey when it reached the junction and entered.

Inspector Hedidor said the drivers of the two vehicles had to use a nearby pedestrian walkway to prevent an accident The prosecutor said the accused was later arrested for dangerous driving and refusing to stop for a Police escorted convoy.
