Driver, fined six million cedis for stealing car

Tema, Feb 16, GNA — A driver at Ashaiman who stole a Fiat taxi cab valued at 28 million cedis when the car was sent to a washing base has been sentenced to six million cedis by the Tema circuit court ‘A’. Ebenezer Oteng pleaded guilty and will go to jail for two years in default.

Chief Inspector Sarah Aggrey Acquah, prosecuting, told the court that on January 23 the complainant sent his taxicab for washing at a washing base at Ashaiman and gave the ignition key to the accused and left for church service.

On his return from church to pick his car the complainant could neither trace the accused nor his car and a report was made to the police. The police sent wireless messages to all stations and on February 1 the accused was arrested at Ho while trying to offer the vehicle for sale.
