Driver fined for motor traffic offence

Nyinahin (Ash), Jan 16, GNA-A 28-year-old driver, Kwaku Agyemang, has been fined 800,000 cedis by the Nyinahin court, presided over by Mr Beresford Sarfo Acquah for driving without license.

His other charges were failing to produce insurance papers and over-loading at the front seat of the vehicle.

Agyemang, who pleaded guilty would serve three months imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector George K. Letsah told the court that on December 23, last year, Agyemang was driving a 33-seater Benz bus from Sefwi to Kumasi.

He said when the police stopped the vehicle at Adiembra tool gate, it was found that he was carrying five passengers in the front seat instead of three.

The prosecutor said again when the driver was asked to produce his license and insurance papers covering the vehicle, he could not do so. Chief Inspector Letsah said Agyemang, however, produced the driving license after five days but this covered only private cars and after investigations he was charged with the offence.
