Driver fined for driving with shattered windscreen

Assin-Foso (C/R), Aug. 16, GNA – Mohammed Shaibu, a driver at Assin-Foso, was on Tuesday fined 400,000 cedis by a magistrates’ court at Assin-Foso for driving a bus with a shattered windscreen and cracked side windows.

Shaibu, who pleaded guilty, will go to jail for three months in default.

Passing sentence, the presiding magistrate, Mr Joseph Blay expressed concern about the state of the vehicle, which was being used as a passenger bus and described it as “very unsafe”. He ordered that it should be impounded and the owner be made to replace the windscreen and side windows before releasing it to him. The prosecution had earlier told the court that Shaibu was arrested on July 12 this year, by a police patrol team.
