Driver fined for causing harm

A thirty-six-year-old driver-mechanic, Edward Tettey was on Tuesday sentenced to a fine of GH¢ 840.00 or in default serve two months imprisonment in hard labour. He was charged by the Cape Coast Magistrates’ Court for careless driving and negligently causing harm.

He pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Samuel Addo told the court, presided over by Mr. Kwame Ohemeng Mensah that, on Friday, October 5 at about 15: 30 hours, Tettey, who was driving a Nissan Primera saloon car with registration number GR 5332-11 from Takoradi to Wa in the Upper East region with four persons on board.

He said on reaching a section of the road near the Central Regional House of Chiefs junction in Cape Coast, Tettey attempted to overtake a vehicle in front of him but in the process, lost control of the vehicle and veered into a ditch.

He said all the occupants in the vehicle sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to the Central Regional Hospital where they were treated and discharged.
