Driver fined for causing harm

Nsawam, Aug, 4, GNA – A circuit court at Nsawam on Friday fined George Attakora, 300,000 cedis for causing injury to 19 passengers some of who are on admission at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Attakora, 34, pleaded guilty and will go to prison for three months in default.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector James Domah in-charge of the Nsawam Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU), told the court presided over by Captain Obeng Ntim (Rtd) that the accused was arrested in March, this year, for failing to stop when the police ordered him at Mofranfa Adwene Junction on the Accra-Kumasi highway.

This resulted in a head-on collision with a passenger vehicle and the cause of injury to 19 persons including Mr. Kingsley Odei, driver of the passenger car who is on admission at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. At the same court Abukari Abassa, 42, an articulator driver was fined 250,000 cedis or in default three months imprisonment.

Abassa found guilty for over-speeding on a journey from Kumasi to Accra during which he run into a private car at Kyekyewere near Nsawam, causing injury to two persons.
