Driver fined 500,000 cedis for evading road tool payment

Mankranso (Ash), Nov 15, GNA – A 32-year-old commercial driver who plies the Kumasi-Mankranso road has been fined 500,000 cedis by the Mankranso magistrate court for not stopping at a toll booth to pay his road toll.

Kwasi Boahen was also charged with aiding and abetting passengers on board his vehicle not to pay rates imposed by the Ahafo-Ano District Assembly on foodstuffs carted to Kumasi for sale. He pleaded guilty and in default of paying the fine, will go to prison for six months.

Prosecuting, Chief Police Inspector Abraham Agyei-Mensah told the court that on September 10, Boahen who was carrying passengers from Essienkyem to Kumasi sped past a revenue checkpoint at Asuadei where he was to pay his toll and for the foodstuffs on his vehicle to be checked for payment of rates by its owners.
