Driver fined 300,000 cedis for breaks failure

Tema, Dec. 28, GNA – A Tema Circuit court “B” has imposed a 300,000 cedis fine on a taxi driver for failing to stop at a junction and running into another car.

David Hammond pleaded guilty with explanation that his breaks failed him when he reached the junction. He was charged with driving without due care and attention and would go to prison for three months in default.

Chief Inspector Teye Matey told the court, presided over by Mr Stephen Teye, that on November 25, 2004, at 0930 hours, the accused who was driving a taxi with registration number GT 9927 R was heading to Community five from Community Two.

He said on reaching the Community five junction, the accused failed to observe traffic and ran into a GV 54 S pick up, and both cars were damaged.
