Driver escaping from police causes accident

Tema, Nov. 22, GNA – A Bedford truck driver at Tema New Town who on seeing policemen on motor check at Tema Press Road, decided to reverse to escape and in the process hit a taxi cab, has been fined two million cedis by the Tema Circuit Court ‘A’.

Felix Fefeeh pleaded guilty and would go to prison for two years in default.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Mary Assunta told the court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu that on March 5, at 1000 hours, Fefeeh was driving the truck with registration number GR 4644 D from the direction of the Ghana Publishing Corporation towards Tema New Town. She said when the accused was about to join the New Town Road, he saw policemen on motor check duties and decided to reverse to escape from the policeman and in the process he run into a Toyota corolla taxi cab behind the truck damaging the taxi.

A report was made to the Tema Regional Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) and the accused was arrested and charged with the offence. The accused, however, failed to appear in court but was arrested on a bench warrant.
