Driver defrauds filling station attendant

Tema, Sept. 28, GNA- A driver who defrauded a filling station attendant of 30 million cedis under the pretext of clearing two cars for him, has been arraigned before the Tema Circuit Court ‘A’.

David Nsowaah pleaded not guilty and the court granted him bail in the sum of 50 million cedis and he would re-appear on Tuesday, October 5.

Police Inspector Sarah Aggrey Acquah, told the court that on September 3, this year, the complainant had a phone call from Charles Odame Debrah, an accomplice, now at large, that his two cars had arrived at the Tema port, and that he should come with 30 million cedis to pay for duty on them.

Inspector Acquah said three days later, the complainant and a witness arrived at Mankoadze roundabout, Tema, and phoned Debrah of their arrival.

The prosecution said the accused person despatched Debrah to take the complainant and witness to the Tema port to show them the two cars. Inspector Acquah said on September 8, the complainant again came back with 30 million cedis, and then Debrah and the accused person picked them to the Tema port, where the complainant handed over a bag containing the money to Debrah.

The prosecution said after that Debrah gave the bill of lading to the accused person to accompany the complainant to the entrance of the port and wait for him.

Inspector Acquah said when they waited for a long time without Debrah showing up, the complainant caused the arrest of the accused for conniving with Debrah to dupe them.
