Driver commits suicide after colleague’s death

Coaltar (E/R), Jan. 26, GNA – Kofi Yeboah, a driver shot and killed himself after, Obene Ayitey, his colleague died on the spot in a lorry accident at Oko Nkwanta near Coalter in the Eastern Region at the weekend. They were returning from a funeral at Dokorochia-Akwadum near Coaltar at the weekend, when the bus they were travelling on was involved in the accident. Police Superintendent Daniel Asare Nyampong, in charge of Nsawam-Coaltar Municipality, on Monday confirmed the tragedy to Ghana News Agency (GNA).

He said on reaching Oko Nkwantah, Yeboah, who was driving the vehicle, lost control of the steering wheel, and the vehicle hit a bridge, somersaulted, killing Ayitey instantly. Supt. Nyampong said after the accident, Yeboah rushed home, entered his room, took a locally manufactured pistol and went to the lorry station at Coaltar and shot himself. He said the bodies of the two drivers have been deposited at the Nsawam Government Hospital for autopsy while the police continued with investigations. 26 Jan. 09
