Driver and his mate arrested for illegal harvesting of timber

Enchi (W/R), May 10, GNA – Mr Isaac Apetorgbor, the Enchi District Manager of the Forestry Services Division, at the weekend arrested the driver and mate of a timber truck belonging to Stark Timber Company, a company based in Dunkwa-on-Offin, for harvesting timber at night in the Yakasi Forest Reserve near Enchi.

Mr Apetorgbor said he had a tip-off that some people were harvesting timber in the reserve and laid ambush at the outskirts of the town. He spotted the truck and after a chase, it stopped and a search on it revealed three Mahogany logs. He handed over the suspects, Nicholas Aprako, the driver, James Aggrey, his mate, to the police Mr F.S. Adika, the District Police Commander, confirmed the story and said investigations were being contacted into the case. 10 May 05
