Drinking Bar Operator jailed 15 years for defilement

A 35 year old drinking bar operator who defiled a 12 year old girl on three occasions and gave her GH?10.00 has been sentenced to 15 year imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court.

Jacob Nii Odartey Lamptey, charged with defilement, pleaded guilty, saying he defiled the victim once when he was drunk.

The court presided over by Mrs. Rita Agyemang Budu convicted Lamptey on his own plea.

The facts as narrated by Detective Inspector J. B. Asante are that the complainant was a carpenter residing at Korle –Gonno in Accra with her daughter, who is the victim in the case.

Lamptey also resides in the same area.

Inspector Asante said the victim lived with her father at Korle-Gonno. On July 20, this year, the complainant was informed by the victim’s brother that he saw the victim and the convict in a room.

Prosecution said when the complainant got home to verify the story, the victim fled the house. The following day, prosecution said the victim was seen hiding at the Tuesday market in Accra.

A witness however brought her home and when she was quizzed she told her father that the convict had defiled her on three occasions.

The prosecution said the victim told them that the convict gave her GH?10.00.

Prosecution said the victim’s father reported the matter to the Police at Mamprobi and Lamptey was arrested and a medical form was issued to the victim.

The prosecutor said during interrogation, Lamptey confessed that he had sex with the victim once, and that, he was then under the influence of alcohol.
