Dressmakers steal show at Independence Day parade

Dressmakers in the Birim North District, who took part in the district Independence Day parade held at New Abirem, and thrilled the crowd with a spectacular performance during the march past.

The dressmakers, who wore simple but glittering uniforms, charmed the crowd when instead of the usual “eyes right,” marked time and performed a 20- second drama depicting a seamstress taking the measurement of a client.

The District Independence Day parade saw a total of 20 schools including the New Abirem Senior High School cadet marching to commemorate the nation’s 58th Independence Day anniversary.

In his address Mr Paul Aboagye Dadzie, the District Chief Executive for Birim North, called on all to reflect on the achievements of both past and present leaders and to also consider what they could do individually to enhance the growth of Ghana.

He said achieving transformation through unity required every Ghanaian to ensure that they collectively discharged their responsibilities faithfully and honestly to the state.

“As businessmen, farmers, public servants, students and pupils, we need to work hard to support the development of Ghana and to develop new attitudes at our workplaces as we tolerate each other as one people,” he said.

Mr Dadzie advised the school children to desist from drug abuse, alcoholism and other anti-social behaviour that could render the huge expenses incurred on their education by their parents and the state wasteful.

He said the government would build a community senior high school in the district in addition to the Afosu Vocational and Technical School which would soon be completed.
