Accra, Aug. 19 GNA- Marie-Jeane Wayikani Ukurango, Ambassador
of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Tuesday commended
Ghana for her good democratic practices on the African continent. She said it was these democratic achievements that paved the way for
the US President, Barrack Obama to visit the country recently. Ms Ukurango made the remarks when she paid courtesy call on the
Minister of Environment and Science, Madam Sherry Ann Ayitey at her
office in Accra. She called for the strengthening of ties between Ghana and DRC for
the mutual benefits of the two nations. Ms Ukurango also called for reactivation of the Memorandum of
Understanding (MOU) signed between Congo and Ghana in 1979, which
aimed at sharing information on the economy. She said the DRC would be interested in learning from Ghana’s
experience in institutional renewal, spanning the environment, tourism and
trade. Madam Ayitey said given the right leadership and support Africa had
the potential to take its destiny into its own hands. She said even though Ghana had problems with the environment
especially in the areas of mining, erosion and forest degradation, the
country was prepared to share her expertise with Congo. The minister welcomed the call for reactivation of the protocols of the
MOU signed between the two countries and assured the ambassador of
her ministry’s support to achieve the desired results. She said Ghana was also prepared to share her knowledge in
institutional renewal as well as democratic governance with the DRC.
